Artificial Intelligence, especially generative AI, has become a popular topic across all industries including higher education. Like any technology, generative AI offers both opportunities and risks to manage. The University is actively evaluating and exploring AI and the potential impact to teaching and learning, research and scholarship, administrative, and other functions at Notre Dame. AI@ND is a university-wide effort across many initiatives and departments:
Summary Guidance
- AI tools should only be used with institutional data classified as Public
- Take care with personal and sensitive information in using AI tools
- Do not integrate unapproved AI tools with University systems (OtterAI in Zoom meetings, Gmail plug-ins, etc.)
- Coordinate with IT staff on any AI usage to protect you and the University
